In my opinion, TeXnicCenter is the best Latex editor among a number of freewares and sharewares. However, lacking of developers, TeXnicCenter seemed to fade away after releasing the Beta 7.01 in June 2006. Last week, when I visited their website, found that a new maintainer for the software development joined. Moreover, a new version Beta 7.50 was released in June 2008.
Although TeXnicCenter versions always come with "Beta", it has been proven to be stable. The developer will release a stable version at the end of 2008, with Unicode support.
LED is another great software with so-called Unicode support. The newest version was released in May, 2008. An annoying bug with LED is that, you cannot type in Chinese. If you do so, the editor cannot display the characters correctly. This issue has been reported with the coming of 5.x version of LED last year. But it seems that it is not a problem to the software author at all.

TeXnicCenter toolbar arrangement problem
TeXnicCenter is quite a LaTex editor. But the annoying thing is that sometimes when you arrange the toolbars as you wish, restart, they all get disarranged. As far as I know, certain toolbar arrangement doesn't have this problem. And in LaTex community forum, Jon gives a ultimate solution:
"Do not maximize the TeXnicCenter-Window but resize it to fit the full screen instead. Now align the toolbars to your needs and close TeXnicCenter. After restart of the program, toolbars should have stayed in place. Now you can maximize the TeXnixCenter window and exit the program again. When now restarting, TeXnicCenter should already be maximized with toolbars in correct place."
I have already tried, it works. Thanks, Jon.

LaTeX editors for beginners: LEd and TexnicCenter
At the beginning of LaTex study, it is quite helpful if you choose a right editor. WinEdt is a wellknown shareware, but not worth it. Some other freewares provide more functions and powerful help documents without charge.
LEd and TexnicCenter are the two that outperform. They both provide document structure view (TexnicCenter displays it in a project only) and help documents in detail. Although they are not perfect, at least, it is better than WinEdt. By the way, till now, TexnicCenter lacks of unicode support.
It is a good idea to start a project in TexnicCenter, both LEd and TexnicCenter can edit the tex files.
For the use of these two latex editors, please refer to their documents.
