Windows has recovered from unexpected shutdown

Imagine the following scenarios.
  • After leaving your computer for a while, you come back and find out your computer is turned off.
  • You put your computer into sleep, but the computer is turned off itself.

When the computer is turned on, it tells
Windows has recovered from unexpected shutdown.

After following the advices from Internet, you still cannot figure out why your computer shuts down itself. If you are sure the hardware is fine, and use Firefox, then disable the automatic update of the Firefox and Firefox add-ons. This may solve the issue. Another you should avoid is, if you just wake up your computer from hibernation, don't go to back hibernation in a short period of time. I noticed that this is a cause too.

Update: if the approach above doesn't work for you, try to change the anti-virus software in your system.

Logging into Yahoo mail with Firefox gives unresponsive script warning

When you log into Yahoo mail using Firefox, you may experience the following problem:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding...

To solve this problem, we need to increase the default script execution time.

  1. Type "about:config" in your Firefox address box. Click the I'll be careful, I promise! button.
  2. In the Filter box, type "dom.max_script_run_time".
  3. When the filtered result shows up, double click the entry "dom.max_script_run_time".
  4. In the pop up windows, change the default value to 20, or 30.

Firefox cannot find JRE

Although I have Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed in my computer, every time I visit a website that contains a Java application, Firefox always asks me to install the Java plugin. I follow the steps that given by Firefox, and the installation is a failure at all times. I tried to reinstall the JRE, but the problem still remains.

Luckily, I found a solution in a blog:
  1. Go to the Java installation directory, usually it is C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin ;
  2. Copy all the following files: npj*.dll and npoj*.dll;
  3. Paste them into "Firefox installation directory"\plugins\, usually it is C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins.

Fix the window size!

Are you using Firefox and /or Tab mix plus? I am using it and pissed off by the window resizing when opening certain windows. This problem is usually caused by JavaScript. To fix the window size, go to Options->Content->Enable JavaScript->Advanced->Move or resize existing windows, and make sure you uncheck the box. That is it. Now the world becomes better...
